One of the benefits Jay Leno gets to enjoy for hosting his garage-related show is that he can wear a Corvette leather jacket… while trying out the brand spanking new 2017 Camaro ZL1 before anybody else does. The latest piece of Jay Leno’s Garage to have hit YouTube shows us the star initiating Brad Paisley in the fine art of the burnout. Of course, with the 2017 ZL1 packing a line lock feature, the country music artist doesn’t have a very difficult job. Or does he? We’ll let the clip answer this question.
Regardless, with GM engineers leaving the LT4 heart of the ZL1 in 650 hp, 650 lb-ft form, just as you can find it on the Corvette Z06, the elevens delivered in this clip are overly meaty. We can’t say the same about the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V, remember? While still overly muscular, the sedan packs a slightly detuned LT4 that “only” places 640 ponies and 630 lb-ft at the mercy of the driver’s right foot.
As those of you who are eagerly awaiting to take delivery of your officially blown Camaros, or simply want to meet the at the local Cars and Coffee events, may point out, GM’s muscle weapon hasn’t hit the street yet.
This comes to explain the manufacturer plate on the car present in the video, as well as the singer’s Chevy cap. Oh and by the way, we have to mention that Jay doesn’t get behind the wheel of the beast, at least not on camera.
Since the two stars managed to put on a respectable straight-line show, we figured this might just work as an appetizer. And that’s why we added a second video below, one that shows the ZL1 flying on the Nurburgring. The video shows the supercharged Chevrolet pulling a 7:29.6 lap (let the long stretch Porsche Carrera GT comparos begin), demonstrating that muscle cars are no longer strangers to extreme cornering these days.
