Maybe Mustangs Crash Leaving Cars and Coffee Because It’s Hard to Launch a Car with 700 Horses

With the popularity of all-wheel drive and electronic driver aids in performance cars these days, it can be easy to forget that powerful cars aren’t always simple and predictable to drive. And now that you can get a Challenger Hellcat or Roush-supercharged Mustang for so little money, it’s also starting to feel like 700 horsepower is nothing special.

But just because high performance cars are generally predictable and easy to drive doesn’t mean they all are. Take this Shelby GT500, for instance. It’s been modified to make a claimed 720 horsepower. And when the driver gets his launch wrong, his run quickly ends up going very wrong.

The thing is, though, if you watch the rest of the video, he’s clearly not completely inept. He launches his car just fine the rest of the day. It’s that one race where in one moment he gets it wrong. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but it’s a great reminder that high-horsepower cars, especially rear-wheel-drive ones are never completely tame.
